Vox Vocis Pacis

The rush and clatter of modern life overwhelms us…

Ambushed by sorrow, overrun by anxiety…

Occasionally a flash of insight penetrates the clouds…

The soul knows to seek relief…

From that which would tear us down…

From that which would cause collapse…

And turn away from the machine…

which growls but cannot follow…

Soul cleaves to the mother-spirit, calling, seeking…

Diving into the balm of good shadows…

Through earth, water and leaves walks the body…

Coming to rest in a refulgent center…

…where listening closely to the sibilant whisper of water, trilling birds and the conversations between rock and stream…

…listening closely…

…it hears the voice of God.

  1. ambushed by sorrow....that is SO beautiful - it is those times when I am ambushed by sorrow that I really need my happy place...but since it ain't so easy to get to a rock at 13,000', I have to go there in my head.....stay sane anyway you can...

  2. I have been ambushed by sorrow over and over for the past four years, after living a charmed life, (didn't know I was but I was living a charmed life), and your words and corresponding pictures touch me profoundly. We have a choice, to survive, or to LIVE. This post enforces the argument to LIVE. Thanks.

  3. Gorgeous words and images. Those rocks and trees are often what keeps me going.

    Hang in there.

  10. What the hell just happened to my comment!? Sigh. Well, it was nice and sappyish but I'm not typing it out again. Mostly because the wine has already blurred it. Instead I'll just say kudos for the use of "refulgent" and "sibilant."

But those steps remind of The Exorcist.

  12. I came here yesterday, spent endless minutes trying to post from my damn Blackberry, then gave up as rush and clatter of modern life took its toll...

I find the rush and clatter is worst when standing next to the railway line...

Lovely photos, lovely words, I love the sound of water on rock more than anything. Belloc wrote a beautiful paragraph on that once, but sadly I can't quote, but I remember the sentiment.
