Love Lies Bleeding

The winter garden lies in silence
upon a carpet of withered memories,
petals that once simmered crimson,
emerald lushness, crumbling, faded,
into parchment upon the wind

If the heart had known
its greatest love was destined
to be an annual,
would it have planted the seed,
to blossom, only to fade?

  1. You've pulled me away from writing my Open Letter To Sputnik (yup, gonna be a doozey) through the sheer force of your poetic art. It called to me.

I recall a line from City of Angels (1998):

"Never date a man who knows more about your vagina than you do."

    No wait, that's not it.

"I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss of her mouth, one touch of her hand, than eternity without it. One."

  2. I was going to say, "Better to have loved..." and then I read the Goodfather's statement.

    Ditto.

  3. I believe the heart would, yes. Beautiful imagery and emotion here.

    "Your love is never wasted
    If your heart is true
    All that you're giving
Will always come back to you
    In the strangest of ways
    On your darkest of days
    All that you're giving out
Will surely be coming back to you" -- Howard Jones

  6. Oh, well done! The answer is always yes. We can't help ourselves. What a missed life if we say no.

  7. I had a more serious comment in mind, but then I read Goodfather's and it disappeared. Sorry.

  8. That brief bit of blinding color is worth it. I think that some things are just made to be brighter for the short term.
