Questioning Atacama

I ran to you
and your rumors
of no rain

Across oceans and mountains
I found you,
caressing the Humboldt

There I stood, nitrate dust,
copper on my tongue,
and an alkali heart

Listening in silence
with only salt wind
to carry my questions of love

You ate my disappointment,
swallowed it with hard light,
while I fell to my knees

closed my eyes
and prayed for rain
here, in Atacama
